R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and artists passed away yesterday. Michael Jackson was born in Gary Indiana in 1958. Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5.

Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President, Sony Corporation, commented on his passing: "Michael Jackson was a brilliant troubadour for his generation, a genius whose music reflected the passion and creativity of an era. His artistry and magnetism changed the music landscape forever. We have been profoundly affected by his originality, creativity and amazing body of work. The entire Sony family extends our deepest condolences to his family and to the millions of fans around the world who loved him."

I'm a Gary Indiana native myself so the news of MJ's death really hit home for me. I give my respects to his family and to all of his fans.

Kanye West:Thank You and You're Welcome

Kanye West, who is known for his musical abilities and his various other ventures, has teamed up with philosopher/author J. Sakiya Sandifer to release "Thank You and You're Welcome." Kanye says that Sandifer was the inspiration behind the book.

He told MTV that; "He inspired the format of the book, because he wrote a book called 'Think, Think, Think and Think Again.' [He did] bullet points in bold graphics, and he expounded upon them ... whereas books hide the main points chapters in. You have to read so much to get so much out of it. We wanted to make it simple for people who are non-readers, who don't feel like doing all that, and still get the point across"

The book can currently be picked up on Kanye's site for only ten dollars. The book will hit store shelves July 7.

iHeartShowdowns: Illmatic Vs. Ready To Die

A clash of the titans! Two of hip-hop's greatest lyricists battle head to head to see which album is the greatest. Many hardcore hip-hop heads will tell you that Nas' Illmatic was the "end all, be all" of all hip-hop albums. That is, until you mention Big's Ready To Die. Both albums are true jewels. Damn this is torture for me, I'll let You all decide!

iHeartMixtapes: The Cool Kids-Gone Fishing

The Cool Kids, probably the most under-hyped duo in rap music. I got to show them some love, they're holding down the Midwest. This is the new mixtape, Gone Fishing. The tape paves the way for their upcoming album When Fish Ride Bicycles. Their lyrical and production skills are very impressive. The whole mixtape is a complete headbanger. "Real hip-hop lives, death to this fake sh*t!"

iHeartMusik Review: Lil Twist f. Lil Wayne - The Leak

Lil Twist f. Lil Wayne - The Leak

New street banger with Lil Twist and Lil Wayne. Alright, let me be the first to say it. Lil Twist sounds like an infant that just got his ass WHUPPED by some big handed ass... I'll stop right there. No hate. Guess what? Lil Wayne is rapping! The song sounds kind of like a Millie from the Carter III. Weezy is back to his old word play. In my opinion, he single handedly saves this track. Listen below and leave your feedback!

iHeartMixtapes: T.I. - Official White Label

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This mixtape is tight! Yeah, thats right, I'm bias! T.I. is continuing to write down his lyrics to his songs and is even able keep up with Nas on the first track. T.I. is one of my favorite rappers, even though I'll probably drive my car off a cliff if I hear "Dead and Gone" on the radio ONE more time. I mean seriously, the first 100,000 times was cute but we need something fresh here in the Chicago-land area. Anyway this tape is dope, cop it.

iHeartMixtapes:Trav Williams - IllTravis

MC Trav Williams pays homage to Nas‘ 1994 debut album Illmatic. Over the course of 10 weeks, producers from all across the world came together to work on this single project as part of a beatmaking contest. as stated above, the mixtape pays homage to Nas' debut Album so the sound is very similar. I liked it, it takes you back to the time when rappers and hip-hop fans valued creativity and intelligent lyrics. (Lol, I sound like an old ass music critic!)

Eminem Releases Album Cover

Alright, looks straight to me. It's definitely creative, Eminem style. The collage of pills is obviously reflective of the music that will be featured on the album.

B.o.B (aka Bobby Ray) f. Devin the Dude - Gettin' High
Album: The Adventures of B.o.B

This is the new soulful single from B.o.B, who is now calling himself by his real name. This track is real cool, nice and laidback. I love street bangers just like anyone else but sometimes I just want to chillout and relax. The song features Devin the Dude, who's laidback and drowsy flow fits perfectly with the song's vibe.

Bow Wow screws Historic Roller Rink

The Chez Vous is a roller rink located in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The rink has been open since 1932 and the owner, Greer Toney, has been having some money problems. Bow Wow had agreed to perform at the Chez Vous’ second annual Peace Night, along with “MTV’s Best Dance Crew” finalist Status Quo. The entire event cost Toney about $10,000 to put together. Bow Wow had arrived, but he didnt like that the fans were too close to his performance area so he refused to do the show. Toney had to give refunds and was told that the advance she paid Bow Wow would not be returned. Creditors informed Toney that she would lose the rink due to missed mortgage payments. “I couldn't believe it…I can't believe that any superstar like Bow Wow would do this,” Toney said in an interview. Well Bow Wow, you said you wanted to go out with a bang. Way to go.

iHeartMusik Review: Lil' Wayne- In the Morning

Lil' Wayne- In the Morning
Album: The Drought is Over (Collector's Edition)

Another autotune track from Lil Wayne, best pop singer (or was it rapper?) alive. The song is reminiscent of his "Prom Queen" and "Hot Revolver" tracks, both of which can be found on his future album The Rebirth.

Bow Wow Retiring?

Yup, just like Jay-Z and Eminem did. Oh wait, they're still here! Bow Wow claims he wont be making anymore albums, which is something he's been doing since he was 13. Well, watch the video and see what you make of it. Retiring from music at age 21? Lol, I believe it...
